Blizzard releases Diablo III

I can remember the first time I played Diablo with a mate of mine, it was a time before the Internet and involved me taking my PC round to his house and connecting the two using a Null Modem cable so we could game together. Old skool!  One thing I loved about the game was it created random dungeons every time you went adventuring. :)

Anyway jumping 16 years into the present day, Blizzard have today released their latest edition to the Diablo franchise, Diablo III.  More hack and slay of demons, 5 classes and upto four player mulitplayer.  Looks pretty slick.

Foolish Sandvich! BoF TF2 Tournament Proposed

Hi All!

Now that summer is around the corner what better way to avoid your daily vitamin D quota by deciding to cause immense gibbage to your Band of Fool team mates and consuming sandvich at the same time.  All in the name of fun.

What am I blithering on about?  Team Fortress 2 tournament that’s what. Yes that ‘other’ game that a select few foolish members participate in from time to time, you usually know this game is being played due to the spontaneous laughter being spilled out on the Mumble server.

Well I’m seeing if there is interest to host a Band of Fools TF2 tournament.  To make it viable we’d need a minimum of eight players (4 v 4) but it’d be much better if we could get twelve players for a 6 v 6 competition.

A modest entrance fee would be put in place for each competitor, this would pay for the server hosting and allow for some actual prizes to the winning team.  Competitors would be placed in one of the two teams: Builders League United (BLU) or Reliable Excavation Demolition (RED).  Ideally funds permitting there would also be a prize for the player with the highest score.

Team Fortress 2 now free to play on both PC and Mac and can be downloaded from Valve’s Steam platform.

I’m aware that not everyone is familar with TF2 and players would probably want some practice sessions and tutorials in getting to know the classes and mechanics. The actual tournament date would be held late June/early July to allow people to get familar with maps, gameplay etc and have some practice nights.  The tournament would include the following map types:

  • Attack/Defend
  • Capture Points
  • Capture the Flag
  • Payload
  • Payload Race
  • King of the Hill

Change of Guild Leader in SWTOR

Dear Guildies

Due to commitments external to the Band of Fools, I am handing over with immediate effect the position of Guild Leader (GL) in SWTOR to Alyssa.  I am confident that Alyssa will keep you all in check and help you progress in SWTOR as only the Band of Fools can, with humour, determination and big sense of fun (and slag!).  I leave it to the Band of Fools if they wish to re-elect a new GL, but in the meantime I think Alyssa is the right person for the job. 

As many of you are already aware I have a couple of commitments outside of the SWTOR world,  I thought that I may be able to juggle both those and being GL, considering that the team humbled me and insisted I stayed in position.  Unfortunately after trying to fit both in, it is clear to me that I am unable to devote as much time I need to both activities, and my outside commitment has to take priority.  How long?  Well I’m unsure, but it won’t be a permanent absence.  I may be online occasionally but it’s more likely to be a quick 40 mins in TF2 than SWTOR.

I apologise to you all that I may have caused some inconvenience with removing an active tank from the guild roster however this could not be avoided and I’m sure Team BoF will improvise and adapt as its always done.

I thank you all for allowing me be your Guild Leader and hopefully I’ve got the Band of Fools somewhere in this cool new MMO called SWTOR; other than exploding Rakghoul Virus everywhere. :-D

I wish you well on your galactic adventures and hope to see you online in the near future.  It’s been a honour and privilege.

Team BoF Changes to Mumble

After many years as the Band of Fools’ main voice comms solution, Ventrilo has finally made way for a new kid on the block, Mumble.  With significantly reduced delay over Ventrilo and able to offer the same in sound quality the switch was worth it. 

The Band of Fools’ Ventrilo server has been converted to Mumble courtesy of our hosting company Typefrag.com who now offer the Mumble product as well as continuing to provide Ventrilo.
