So you’ve gone and downloaded the latest version of Ventrilo, you’ve got your headset at the ready. But have no idea what you need to do to connect to the guild’s Ventrilo server. Here’s the Band of Fools’ self help guide to getting you up and running with Ventrilo.
Step 1
Load up Ventrilo, and click on the top right button that says “Add or Edit user accounts” when you put the mouse cursor over it.
Step 2
Click the “New” button and enter the name you want to associate with your account.


Step 3
The phonetic field is what the server will say to other users when you connect, disconnect or change channels on the Ventrilo server. You may want to click Play to ensure that the your phonetic name sound actually sounds like the name you’ve put in the Username field. Once you’re done click “OK”.

Step 4
Now you need to put in the connection details for the guild’s Ventrilo server. Click on the ”Add or Edit server connections” button.

Step 5
Click on the “New” button.

Step 6
Enter in the name for the server, it can be anything but Band of Fools is what we’ll use in this guide.

Step 7
Enter in the hostname, port number and password.
Hostname is: helium.typefrag.com
Port number is: 44489
Password is: Brisbane (this is the guest password, registered users have their own unique passwords).
Click “OK”.

Step 8
You should return back to the Ventrilo window below. But this time there should be message saying “Server is available. Press Connect”.
If you haven’t got this message then go back and check the connection settings in step 7. Otherwise you should now beable to press the connect button and join us on the Ventrilo server.
