Troubleshooting Ventrilo

Everyone on the vent server says I’m quiet!

Either you’re really shy or you may not have your mic level set high enough.  If your mic level is set to the max and you still sound like a mouse then you may not have the mic boost enable on your computer.  Mic Boost may be called “+20 dB” on your computer.

How come I no longer hear the name of the user when they connect to the server?

Ventrilo does have a text to speech feature, though it seems version 3 of Ventrilo does have different default settings.  A sound is played by default when someone connects/disconnects to the server or to a channel. Also the user will themselves have had to fill out the Phonetic field when they’ve created their user, if left blank the Ventrilo server will use the user’s username as the default phonetic.

If you want to configure your Ventrilo client so that it reads out users’ names when they connect to the server and channels, you need to change a few setting to Text to Speech (TTS) on the events tab, see below. To get to the Events tab you need to click on the Setup button when Ventrilo has loaded.
